A little sewing last weekend, some more zippered pouches. Two for a friend, the rest (when I finish them) may make it onto the shop, we'll see.
B worked that day on his "book", a short lived project, but the set up was cute to see, I love that he is so excited about writing. Here is the dedication page (which they learned about in kindergarten), spelling intact.

I have two good girlfriends whose kids when to preschool with B. We get together for our girls nights (usually videos - often of the sci fi catagory - and lots of sweets - our favorite is Uncle Woody's Caramel Corn, it is SO good). To make a long story short, the other day I was driving and thinking that it would be great to start a group where we did things with the kids to enrich upon their public school education. This all started with the Japanese language class I signed B up for was canceled because there weren't enough kids. My idea was that my friends and I, with our various talents, would do outings or in house things with the kids.
And so "Organized Chaos" was born (we needed a name and that sums it up). On January 31st we will be checking out the Chinese New Year celebration in Seattle's International District with the Dragon and Lion dances and the Japanese taiko drumming. The following month we will be going to a free family day at the Seattle Art Museum. Other ideas have included arts and craft projects, music performances for kids, doing some cooking and baking at home (maybe vege sushi), and also finding a way to share the ideas of giving back to our community, any thoughts on that would be appreciated. I want to teach B about volunteering, we are planning to participate in our neighborhood's Clean Up day on Feb 7th.
So our inaugural outing was a nature hike and picnic through our neighborhood state park (quite large actually). I am not so much the outdoorsy type, but my friend is and was able to point out lots of interesting things to the kids. Here are some shots.
The kids took pictures which I hope we will develop and put into a journal of the day.
Leaning about moss, something we have an abundance of.
Finished off with an outings for cupcakes. Mine was Caramel fleur de sel, really, really good.
Edited to add:
Michelle had asked for more info on the Seattle Art Museum event, and I had meant to add a link. If you are in the Seattle area and interested, you can find more info here. They will be having a family day celebrating America's favorite community festivals, including circuses, county fairs and variety shows. Sounds like a hoot!
FYI the cupcakes are from Cupcake Royale in Ballard, I am normally a huge Trophy Cupcake fan as well, but this one was a big improvement over some others there recently. They may just give Trophy a run for it's money, I guess I will just have to keep up with the tasting research :) work, work, work...

I love your idea for the group. What a wonderful idea. I often thought about doing stuff like that when Melody gets older.

what is the free family day at SAM? I've been dying to see the Hopper exhibit, but haven't had a chance yet!
I love the idea of the New YEars celebration at the ID....we're in Beacon Hill so it's just a simple bus ride. I need to try to make it this year, my 4-year old would LOVE it!
Thanks for the ideas!
